So it's been a while since my last post! Sorry about this, but it's been quite hectic around here.

Let's start with the first and most important news: MY PARENTS GOT MARRIED!
The wedding was totally awesome and loads of fun. This year my parents have been together for 25 years and they're also both turning 50 so they decided to throw a big party and get married just for the hell of it! Yes, we've been living in sin my whole life XD.

Anyway, I don't have the pictures of the wedding yet so I'll save the details about it until I do. For now, just remember: Good food, pretty clothes and lots of dancing!

Hi all- I'm 32, and about to go back to school. (I'll spare you the details here- if you want more of the story, hop over to my own LJ.) I plan to spend the summer term finishing off some pre-reqs at Truman College (one of the city colleges) and then transfer to a grad-level program at National-Louis. I haven't been a full-time student in about 9 years, and I'm looking forward to it, especially since I'm a little more mature this time around, and less distracted by the usual 21-year-old studenty things. On the other hand, I really need to keep working as much as possible- no support from the bank of mom-n-dad this time!

Just thought I'd say "hi", and see if anyone has any tips regarding either school.

Hey I've got a potential gig for ya. You'd be administering surveys at a clothing store.

This Friday & Saturday only. $20 an hour.

It's in a burb pretty close but you'd probably need a ride to get there.

Must be outgoing and good at talking to people!

God really does love me after all.

I have been having a terrible few days. Yesterday was awful. I wrote a 2 or 3 page entry about how awful my day was, and decided to dump it because it was so damn negative. Everything was eating at me. Mother's day, work, school, the impending reality of adulthood, my fucking twitching eyelid. Everything. I almost cried yesterday at my stupid video class, this bitch...ugh. We had a lighting workshop at night instead of a normal class, and apparently we were supposed to bring our cameras, but SHE DIDN'T TELL US THIS and then did that awful condescending "well exactly what did you think we were going to be doing?" to make herself look like less of a dumbass for NOT TELLING US TO BRING OUR CAMERAS. We haven't brought our cameras to class all quarter, why would we arbitrarily decide to bring them that night?

So yeah, I wanted to hit someone. I went to the gym yesterday to vent, and EVERY MACHINE THAT I'VE EVER USED was taken. That has never happened before. I just went home in a huff. And, finally, this screenwriting class which I've been keeping on the farthest of the backburners is finally catching up to me. I have to finish a screenplay (which is looking like it's going to be at least 120 pages) by the end of the quarter, June 4th. I'm on page 28.

So, naturally, I'm freaking out about when these 92 pages are going to magically write themselves. I have to present some stuff tomorrow, and I wanted to get at least to page 50, but that just isn't happening. So my eyelid's twitching, my heart is racing, my fingers are flailing in surrender, and I am thisclose to giving it all up and hibernating for the rest of the quarter.

But then, a stream of merciful hope broke through my window.

I just got an e-mail from my screenwriting professor. He canceled tomorrow's class.

Every day I'm convinced there's some higher power flicking rubber bands at me in my sleep, you know? Fucking with me. I know giving power to "fate" or "God" or whatever is sort of a cop-out, but you don't really expect me to blame myself for all the shit that goes wrong in my life, do you? Whatever. I feel so much better right now.

Oh sweet, this means I can go to the gym tomorrow to make up for Monday too! AH TODAY IS TURNING OUT SO MUCH BETTER THAN YESTERDAY. I mean, yesterday was bad. I was even toeing that "Holy shit this is so not worth it I hate school I hate life what the fuck am I doing with myself" line of despair. But now I feel great.

Anyway, that's it. I graduate in a month and a day. Isn't that terrifying?

UPDATE: Promoters Law passes committee...

After a more than four-hour session Wednesday, the City Council Committee on License and Consumer Protection passed the proposed promoters law written about at length in the preceding post. The ordinance now goes to the full City Council on May 14, and if approved there, the Chicago music scene will once again change for the worse at the hands of city officials.

Advisory Board Nominations

We'd like to remind you that the nomination process for LiveJournal Advisory Board user-representatives has begun. If you think you're fit for the job, now's the time to nominate yourself! After all, you're the only who can do it. In two weeks, on the 22nd, the voting process will begin; we'll remind you about it again here.

If you're interested in keeping up with the nominations, watch [info]lj_election_en. We'll post the results and announce the winner by the end of the day on May 30th. The new user-representatives will be seated on June 1st. Further details can also be found in [info]lj_2008.

Advisory Board Nominations Begin

This morning we are opening the nomination process for the user-representative positions on the LiveJournal Advisory Board. A full description of the process can be found here.

To get you started, here are the basic things you should know:

- You may only nominate yourself
- Each nominee will need 100 motions of support in order to be eligible to be a candidate
- We ask that you keep your comments on the nomination posts to "I support this nomination" or something to that effect; be kind to those who will need to count the "supports", please.
- Although the nominations and election poll will take place in [info]lj_election_en, you do not need to watch the community in order to keep up with the election; we'll announce everything here as well.

Everyone here at LiveJournal is looking forward to this first-ever User-Representative election! We'd like to thank everyone who is participating. Some words from our current Advisory Board members:

danah boyd: “LiveJournal is filled with very passionate users. These users have helped shaped LJ's various communities over the last decade and it gives me great joy that LJ is recognizing and incorporating users' voices into the decision-making processes. Having user representatives from different parts of LJ on the Advisory Board will help make sure that the company is meeting the needs of its diverse constituents.”

Esther Dyson: "I'm sure we'll learn a lot from the process, and later on from the two users selected as well. Especially, I hope that the discussions before the voting will be more meaningful and more focused on policy than those in some offline campaigns."

Brad Fitzpatrick: "It's cool that SUP is getting users involved with the LiveJournal decision-making process. I look forward to seeing who the community elects and the results of our efforts working together."

Professor Lawrence Lessig: “The user elections will provide a critical check on LJ's process of maintaining a valuable and trustworthy environment for the LJ community. The mandate of the elections will give the user representatives pride of place among the members of the Advisory Board. Each of us will look to them to guide us in our judgment about how best to make LJ the community we all aspire that it will be. I look forward to welcoming the user representatives, and learning a great deal from them.”
